Camp Ma-He-Tu was founded in 1937 in Bear Mountain, NY by a Lutheran minister and provides a unique, overnight camping experience for girls of all races and religious belief on beautiful Lake Kanawauke. It offers a general outdoor activities program for girls 7-15, and provides leadership opportunities for older teenagers and young women as counselors.
To continue that legacy, Ma-He-Tu has created its own permanent source of income to help weather economic downturns and keep its fees affordable for girls of all backgrounds. The Camp Ma-He-Tu Endowment Fund, Inc. (formerly called the Camp Ma-He-Tu Foundation) has been approved by the IRS to establish a tax exempt endowment fund for the benefit of Ma-He-Tu. As the fund grows, the Endowment Fund will be able to use the interest to defray Ma-He-Tu's operating expenses, offer scholarships to campers, and maintain camp facilities. Through the generous contributions of our donors, we can ensure that Ma-He-Tu will be there for girls and young women for decades to come!
All members of the Endowment Fund's Board of Directors attended Ma-He-Tu as campers or counselors and serve without compensation. The Endowment Fund is a separate corporation from the Lutheran Girls Camp Association, Inc. (LCGA) which operates Camp Ma-He-Tu.
